Made Smarter Commission
Posted April 04, 2019
Andrea Hough, ATEC Solutions Managing Director, is a member of the Made Smarter Commission which is an independent non-statutory advisory group set up to provide the vision and the national voice for the future of UK Manufacturing in the 4thIndustrial Revolution. It is the driver and the catalyst for the MadeSmarterUK movement.
The commission was a recommendation of the Made Smarter Review published in October 2017 and is jointly chaired by Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Prof Juergen Maier, CEO Siemens UK.
There are three strategic themes of the Made Smarter Movement – 1) Adoption, 2) Innovation and 3) Leadership.
- Theme 1 – Adoption is being piloted in the North West and was launched in November 2018 at the Smart Factory Expo in Liverpool. Andrea is also a member of the North West Pilot team and is working alongside the Manchester Growth Company, Crane Payment Innovations, Lambert, Mettler Toledo, JLR and others to ensure that the pilot is successful before being rolled out across the country.
- Theme 2 – Innovation & Skills sees John Bowden, ATEC’s Technical Director joining the Made Smarter Skills workshops which Semta has agreed to facilitate. The workshops will build on the skills matrix set out in the Made Smarter review and focus on developing personas for our future engineers, defining in more detail the skills and competencies that they will need.
- Theme 3 – Leadership is being led by Dame Judith Hackett and is looking at both communications and branding of the Made Smarter Movement across SME businesses.
